Another Front On the Way [1-06-2015]

Image
Originally published January 6, 2015 Noticed the weather forecast is warning of another cold front arriving this week. Looks like cold temps and wintry precipitation is likely. Moreover, no reports from the Field Team. Suspect they are hot and heavy working their day jobs to "mess" with fishing. No worries for this Blogger... or as Glenn  calls me, "The Weblog Admin". That said, since I am a volunteer and don't get paid, I do like being referenced as "The Weblog Admin"! So until the next report, here is picture that the Team sent. From his notes, it sounded like the birds return each year to Waterloo in Denison!

Trout Fishing Murphy City Complex Pond | Livestream in Murphy, Texas

Image
After only a strike and a miss, decided to post a livestream while trout fishing at Murphy City Complex Pond. Saw lots of folks, with limits being taken on PowerBait and PowerWorms as well as lures. Gold Super Duper worked for some in the morning. Later, Silver Super Dupers were getting bit. Key was to cast mid-pond , let the lure sink, and retrieve slow... much slower than the retrieve that worked last weekend in McKinney's Towne Lake.

Fished a Feeder Creek This Round [1-04-2015]

Image
Originally published January 4, 2015 Cold temps and short on time; no Trout Reports today. Did get a snippet from Fshng84 who went fishing at the Feeder Creek to Bethany. He reported little Bluegill/Sunfish on Soft Hackle and Tiny Midges. Looked like fun especially on a 3 Weight Fly Rod. Did note that the Tiny Midge used was the same one used on the Blue River when a midge hatch starts up and the Trout start slurping them up just before they break the surface. Video of the Bluegill/Sunfish action

Beware Bigger Fish Below... #shorts #pondfishing

Originally published January 3, 2015 Received an update from the Team... limited out at Waterloo!  Two went for the GRHEN on a Tandem Rig Near Deere and GRHEN. Remainder went for PowerBait.  Overall, it looked like a number of fishermen limited out. Bait seemed to outdo lures. No worries, Good thing our fishing buddy figured out the pattern this round and had PowerBait ready to go!

Originally published February 23, 2022 This round I demonstrate the five steps I follow that helped me limit out on Trout. Do give it a try, and let us know how it worked for you! Step 1 - Observe Where are the trout lurking? What are others doing that is/isn't working? Step 2 - What worked before? Try lures and retrieves that worked from past trips Do the same, else try varying the presentation Step 3 - What is Different? Did something change - warmer, colder? Has the wind changed? Step 4 - Give them what they want! Try different lures Change the retrieve Note any indication of a strike Step 5 - Catch a limit! Warren Sports Complex Trout Fishing #frisco #livestream [02-13-2022]

Fishing updates and related activities from the Team! Do check back as we post YouTube Shorts, Videos, and Live Streams while we are out and about. This round we fished Warren Sports Complex for the Trout Stocking in Frisco. Past years the tout were stocked at the Frisco Commons pond. This year and maybe going forward, the Warren Sports Complex was stocked. The annual Trick A Trout Derby was held yesterday, but it sounds like the trout were stocked during the week instead of early Saturday morning. The bite was slow with some limits observed; we suspect the change in temps - dropped 30 degrees from yesterday, had something to do with the slow down in the action. Moreover, it is a big pond; more like a lake. Seemed like the trout were deep or lurking near the waterflow along the North bank - the one with the concrete retaining wall. Do have video while we there; do check back!

Mystery Tackle Box Unboxing | BFS Fishing Lures?

Second of a three box subscription that yours truly received as a Christmas Gift. Decided on the Panfish and Trout option because we have had good luck with the light weight lures that target panfish and trout…. and more important, can be used for Bait Finesse System aka ultralight baitcasting. This round had five lures of which the Slim John Spoon at 1/12oz and Crappie Jigs at 1/16oz should work well with the BFS Combos we have! Took a Bit But the Pattern Worked Eventually! [12-24-2014]

Image
Originally posted December 24, 2014 Heard from the Field Team again! Looks like Glenn continues to fish Bethany Lakes using the  COAF Griffith's Gnat . Luckily, three Trout went for the pattern although one was lost while bringing it in. He had to wait until the early evening when the Trout started rising/feeding on something on the surface. Here are key notes from today: Drop in temperatures and windy conditions made it tough to hook up; overall action remained slow during the mid-day period Action did pick up later in the afternoon/early evening with Bubble Fly Rigs and PowerWorms doing well Also, noted Velveeta Cheese fished with a Bobber were doing well in the early evening COAF Griffith's Gnat came through when sight casting to rising Trout also in the early evening Silver Super Duper did well for some; cast for distance to the middle of the pond and use a steady retrieve to hook up Video clip below shows the COAF Griffith's Gnat hooking up with two Rainbow Tr

Took A While But Found a Pattern [12-23-2014]

Image
Originally posted 12-23-2014 Overall, the action had been hit or miss at our local pond.  Trout were actively rising on the surface throughout the day, but fishermen were having trouble consistently hooking up. There were a few fisherman who did get a limit, and as the afternoon progressed, one area of the pond seemed to have a flurry of activity that resulted in a limit being taken in less than 30" by one fisherman.  Key notes from today were: Super Dupers worked early in the day but the bite turned off Bubble Fly Rigs with a Prince Nymph were getting strikes but hook ups were spotty Black Midge Dry Fly were also getting strikes but missed hook sets seemed to be the norm Bubble Fly Rigs with a PowerWorm seemed to be the go to rig/lure today COAF Griffith's Gnat (variant of the Griffith's Gnat) worked well for rising trout For more on the COAF Griffith's Gnat, do see the article, " Griffith's Gnat on a Caddis Hook ". Originally published 12-22-2014. Bethany Lakes Fishing Report We received another report from Bethany Lakes from Glenn who noted the bite was mixed. Some fishermen were doing well catching their limit, while others were striking out. What worked this round: Silver Super Dupers worked well today Gold Super Dupers were also getting struck Sight casting to boils as well as a steady retrieve of the Super Duper helped get strikes As the bite slowed, switching to fishing flies helped A Bubble Fly Rig also helped in getting the distance needed to reach active fish feeding on the surface Below is a short video showing one fisherman bringing in a Trout using a Bubble Fly Rig! Fishing the Blue River in Oklahoma

Image
For several Winters the COAF Field Team focused on fishing local community lakes and ponds for Rainbow Trout. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department would publish its Winter Rainbow Trout Stocking Schedule the latter half of November each year. The Team reviewed the schedule and adjusted work/personal commitments to maximize their chances at fishing for the scrappy Trout. These locations included Bethany Lakes in Allen, Towne Lake in McKinney, and the Commons Pond in Frisco. Of the three, Bethany Lakes typically received a stocking mid-December, and then stockings in Towne Lake and Commons Pond would follow the next year in mid/late February. About four years ago, the Team decided to try fishing the Blue River in Oklahoma. They heard from others that the River was less than two hours away, was stocked weekly starting November through March the following year, and offered an excellent opportunity for larger Rainbow Trout compared to the little Stockers being released the Team's ar
