Blue River Fishing Tips | What Worked For Me This Round #blueriverok #oklahomatroutfishing

Hoped to catch one of the Bruiser trout that are stocked for the Trout Derby on the Blue River. Did not catch a Bruiser but still managed three that went 12″ – 14″ in size, making for a nice dinner!

After scouting the upriver from Hughes Crossing, went back to Hughes Crossing and fished just upriver of the low water crossing. Tried the same fishing fly and presentation as I did on an earlier trip.

Pattern this round…
Pat’s Near Deere on dead drift with a twitch now and then as well as a Stop and Go Retrieve. Same applied to a Pat’s Rubber Leg.

Fishing an Olive Near Deere and a Guadalupana, trout wanted a fast retrieve with rapid short pulls. While a Pink Near Deere was a no go!

Only one White Bass this round at Brockdale Park. Caught it using the Daiwa Sealine Surf Casting Rod and Penn Squall 15 Reel. It struck a multi-rigged Marabou Fishing Fly that simulated a school of bait fish (at least a school of three that is). Did have some fun sight casting to two schools of White Bass that passed but only had the one hookup. Then, switched to a 2oz lead weight to practice casting. Had fun doing that, and then decided to put the Tennis Ball Fishing Float on the line. Once the Tennis Ball was wet, was able to cast as far (possibly) further than the lead weight! Fun stuff! Jug Line Fishing Again... Plus Snippet of Last Week's Fun! #coaffieldteam

Still sidetracked by the day job but luckily Saturday’s are open for now for some fishing. This round more jug line fishing at Lake Lavon. Was there on the Fourth of July and only caught one on rod and reel while kayak fishing. Had video but file was corrupted while transferring to the computer. No worries… this round, able to get the video to transfer and finished editing it! Also, still working on the fishing and side trips last month to the Texas Coast and Hill Country; added a snippet to the end of this video. Do check back periodically; hope to get it posted sooner than later!

Where to Park at Brockdale Park when the Gates are Closed

Below is a map that shows the Group Camping Area, Equestrian Parking Area, Gate, and Brockdale Park. Since the gate is closed due to high water conditions, park in the Equestrian Parking Area, and then walk down to the Park. When you near the Group Camping Area (currently being used for a Girl Scout Camp), follow the road to the right and continue to the Equestrian Parking Area. The gate is closed to the Park due to high water conditions – the boat ramp is underwater, but you can still walk down the road to the Park.

Out and About Sunday Morning Pond Fishing! #coaffieldteam

[UPDATE: Added the video of the evening round below and a link to google maps. Pond is in Fairview on Fairview Parkway.] Started Sunday morning with a swing and miss at the “Pond Behind In-N-Out Burger”. Tried the usual spots without a strike, but did see a nice Bass along the bank… that is, did spook a nice Bass! Windy and cold but not ready to call it a morning, decided to move to another spot just down the road… it’s the pond along Angel Parkway. Forgot its name; calling Angel Parkway Pond for ease of reference. Windy and cold still, did not plan to fish for long. But, then got a bite on the PMOT… turned out to be a nice Bluegill! Stuck it out for longer, even after losing the PMOT… snapped it off while casting. Switched to a Muddler Minnow, hoping for a repeat like yesterday where a Bass took it as it was “sputtering” just under the water’s surface. No luck! Answering the mail on the Centerpin Reel I used to catch a couple trout. So far, I like it... able to try this method with spending too much! I bought the reel in Amazon but shipped from the UK. It took several weeks for it to arrive. While it was intransit, I watched a number of videos on centerpin fishing, casting, and techniques. After it arrived, I practiced casting it using a Wallis Cast that calls for pulling the line off the reel and then casting. Similar to a double haul cast when fly fishing. I still need to practice my cast to reduce the backlashes I get, but I am able to cast it far enough to fish local ponds. My intent is to try float fishing it at the local tailrace - Denison Dam and possibly Lake Lewisville Ecological Learning Area (LLELA).  Both, offer a great opportunity to drift fish. Trout Fishing Murphy City Complex Pond | Livestream in Murphy, Texas

After only a strike and a miss, decided to post a livestream while trout fishing at Murphy City Complex Pond. Saw lots of folks, with limits being taken on PowerBait and PowerWorms as well as lures. Gold Super Duper worked for some in the morning. Later, Silver Super Dupers were getting bit. Key was to cast mid-pond , let the lure sink, and retrieve slow... much slower than the retrieve that worked last weekend in McKinney's Towne Lake.

Bethany Creek Park Pond Yesterday... Quick Clip Today!

Fished Bethany Creek Park pond yesterday and caught a number of Bluegill using a Foam Grasshopper, and then later using an Orange/White Tenkara Fly. Went with the Four Weight and had a blast catching them. Today, went kayak fishing at Brockdale Park (Lake Lavon). Windy with waves to deal with but the action was fast paced initially when the White Bass were feeding on shad in the shallows. Lost count of how many were caught but did get five Keepers. Would have been six but lost one while putting it on the stringer. Got lots of video to edit but below is a short clip that gives an idea about today’s action! Fun stuff!
