Texas Rainbow Trout Fishing | Ultralight BFS Fishing for Trout with 1/16oz Roostertails

Rain delay has us sidetracked but was able to make it Saturday afternoon for a round of Texas Rainbow Trout fishing BFS Fishing style – Bait Finesse Systems fishing, at Frisco Commons Pond.

Went with ultralight gear that included the Kastking Zephyr BFS Reel, Berkley Lightning Rod, and 1/16oz Roostertails! Trout were active and did manage to catch three trout for dinner.

Reel is casting nicely plus keeping only 100 feet of line on the reel helps with clearing backlashes as yours truly re-educates his thumb to baitcasting again!

Kayak Fishing | Lake Lavon | Lavonia South Boat Ramp

Put in at Lake Lavon’s Lavonia South Ramp for some kayak fishing. Plan was to catch a few fish for a soup recipe – specifically, yellow bass as well as anything else that was legal size! Went with Nightcrawlers and caught a few, then caught a few more bottom bouncing slab and jig rigs! Do check back for the soup recipe and the next day’s trip kayak fishing Clear Lake Park on Lavon!

Another round at Bethany Lakes Sunday. Limited out using Gold Super Dupers and Gold Kastmasters. Then, did some catch and release fishing with the Switch Rod. Trout went for a Olive Near Deere, Guadalupana, and a Krystal Dub Minnow! Fish wanted a fast retrieve; did get a lot of missed strikes and trout nipping our lures/fishing flies!   Gold Kastmaster used today!

Saturday Switch Rod Practice at Bethany Lakes.... #switchrod

Decided to get a round of Switch Rod casting practice at Bethany Lakes this morning. Missed two Bass but did get two Bass. Lots of fun especially getting distance casts using the one-handed style we like. One Bass went for a Clouser Minnow; the other Bass went for an Olive Near Deere. The two Bass we missed went for the Clouser Minnow. Was out fishing a local creek earlier this week. Caught a few Bluegill with the 2wt flyrod but was wanting for the tenkara rod as the creek was lined with brush and offered minimal access as well as casting room. Lots of roll casting and switch casting was the key. Unfortunately, lost the video… deleted it by accident. No worries, trip triggered your’s truly to search online for tenkara sales… and with luck, found Tenkara USA was offering a 30% discount on their rods. Nice! Noted the Iwana Tenkara Rod that we have been eyeing for several years was at our price point… $119 plus $14 for shipping. Order is in… now waiting for delivery. While we wait, will take out the old Tenkara Rod and wet a line or two. Due check back on updates on our Tenkara adventures!

Rain Delay... Fishing Lanyard, Anyone?

Rain has the Team indoors. Hate it when it rains when you are off work. Worse yet is the forecast is anticipating more rain into the weekend. For now, been watching TV and thinking about fishing related things like making a Paracord Fishing Lanyard. Looked easy enough, had the material on hand already, and did not take long to make. Hope to use it soon!
