Blue River Fishing | Preseason Scouting Trip | #maxcatch #switchrod #opstcommandohead

Decided to make the run to the Blue River for a preseason fishing trip. Trout are scheduled to be stocked in the near future. Best to checkout the river and see if anything has changed.

Was a great trip. Did not catch any big ones but did have fun catching a fish or two while scouting the river! River was looking really nice, and the weather was even nicer.

Fished with the Discount Switch Rod – 2wt Maxcatch Fly Rod with Hydros SL1 Reel with OPST Commando Head (mentioned Rio Trout Max in the video… it’s the OPST).

Also, the Tandem Rig Fishing Fly setup worked on the fish, hope it works on trout in the next few weeks. Do keep the Blue River in your back pocket this coming Trout Stocking Season!

While surfing the net, checked out Texas Fishing Forum’s fly fishing thread. Noted a question that got our attention. “How do I know if a cut off to much of my fly line……..? I’m a newbie and I’m wondering if I cut off to much. I am also looking for some lessons. I want to fish for trout in the future so I want to be able to lay the line down on the water softly. Thanks in advance” This video provides our suggestions and fits our Team’s goal… “Learn to fish by our trials and errors” which we have made lots of errors over the years. Foam Grasshopper Still Works! #flyfishing

Quick trip to Kroger Park this evening. Tied a Green Foam Grasshopper, grabbed the 5wt Fly Rod, and headed to the pond for a go at the fish. Number of hits from Bluegill, some Bass as well. Did lose a number to short strikes and thrown hooks. No worries… caught a number of them. A report from Lake Lavon… looks like some fish. Perry: Re: Lavon dam I went down this morning .. People catching a couple sandbass, buffalo,and drum.. It was actually a lot slower than I thought it would be.. Didn't see any hybrids caught or crappie but I'm sure they are in there somewhere.. I was only able to stay for hour or so.. Great info on Texoma!!       texoma1231: Fly Fishing Texoma August 15 & 16th I fly fished lake Texoma the past two day and had a great time and caught plenty of fish. This past Tuesday I put in at Eisenhower State Park and was on the water by 6:30am. Headed west out of Eisenhower along the rocks and the sand bass and stripers were schooling on top in some of the largest schools that I have seen in a long time. The Sand bass were of good size but the stripers were of the smaller variety. We were using 6wt rods with floating line and charetruse/white clousers. Sometimes you would find larger sand bass and stripers mixed in with the average size. We caught fish all morning long and were off of the water at 11:00am. If you want to have a great time catching tons of fish, now is the time to go. Wednesday was an exact repeat of Tuesday!!!!! Tight Lines     ...

Sunday on the Blue; Only One This Round! #blueriver #troutfishing

Struck out Saturday on the Blue River. Went back Sunday and almost struck out again. Luckily, caught one Rainbow Trout using Power Bait… whew! Regardless, had a fun time fishing the river. Saw lots of trout, some were interested in fishing flies but Power Bait, Salmon Eggs, and in one instance Frog Lures! Met one fisherman who makes a lure called the Frog Lure that is patterned after a soft plastic used for Bass. These are scaled down, have garlic in them, and are fished on a jig head using spinning gear. Having brought only fly fishing gear, was able to make do casting them with the Switch Rod. Did have several trout chase the lure, even had three on the hook briefly but was not able to close the deal and land them. No worries… two days on the Blue River sure beats work!

Catfishing at Lake Lavon!

Liking this update! Last weekend had different results all 3 days,   Foggy day 1 and 2, temp was 48 to 52, wind was not consistent. Bait was shad Day 1, deep water, fish some humps but they were not there, started drifting and was able to pick off 15, Here is a pick of a triple 30,26,25. Day 2, mid depth, fished creek channels and timber, landed 7 biggest were 23, 33. Day 3, started deep on humps caught 20,18, move to mid depth and stopped catching.    We need a lot colder temps to get these cats to stack up.     Retrieved from http://forum.lakelavonfishing.com
