Tenkara Fishing a Creek #tenkarausa #iwana #flyfishing

Too nice a day to spend Easter Sunday indoors. Rained last night and Sunday morning but by afternoon the sun was out. It was windy but not bad along the creek… tight spaces and clobbered with debris did manage to catch a few Bluegill and a Bass on a Foam Grasshopper.

Key items to note… 12′ tenkara rod could still be fished in the creek’s tight spaces, the bow and arrow cast worked well accurate casts were easily attained, and floating debris tended to be the deal breaker for fishing a large area of nesting Bluegill… will have to comeback when things clear up.

Overall, the versatility and portability of the tenkara rod reminds us why we tried this fishing method years ago!

Was out fishing a local creek earlier this week. Caught a few Bluegill with the 2wt flyrod but was wanting for the tenkara rod as the creek was lined with brush and offered minimal access as well as casting room. Lots of roll casting and switch casting was the key. Unfortunately, lost the video… deleted it by accident. No worries, trip triggered your’s truly to search online for tenkara sales… and with luck, found Tenkara USA was offering a 30% discount on their rods. Nice! Noted the Iwana Tenkara Rod that we have been eyeing for several years was at our price point… $119 plus $14 for shipping. Order is in… now waiting for delivery. More on Squaw Creek…     Littlefeather: Re: Squaw Creek Tilapia I've not been to Squaw since Winter but caught a whole box of Tilapia and big channel cats. Squaw is the hottest water lake I've ever fished so Winter really pays off! Generally in the warmer months almost every fish in the lake goes as far up the river as they can go so they escape the hot power plant water circulating. Sometime you can just step from one boat to the next to the next up the river in the Summer. I wouldn't think the bank fishing areas would be very good right now but January and February should be non-stop action. We generally just use a slip float, small hook, and regular old worms. In fact, I accomplished what I have dubbed the Bethany Lakes Grand Slam - catching at least one bass from each of the four ponds in one day. Started off in the Horseshoe Pond with a bass off a bed using a Baby Brush Hog. Then caught four in the Main Pond using a wakebait, plus one off a bed using a Senko that actually jumped back out of the water and onto the bank once I released him (and luckily I caught that on video). Finished with two more fish on a wakebait, one from the Upper Pond and one from the Lower Pond 35-40 minutes after sunset. News from Somerville!   I went out to the dam this evening and saw white bass surfacing on the lake. I walked down and there was a guy fishing out there but he said they were too small and he couldn't catch them. So I started by throwing my normal clousers and marabou jigs and I had the same problem. I went through multiple clousers, marabou jigs, briminators, and rubber legged dragons and had only caught about 6. Finally, I put on a size 10 chartreuse rubber legged dragon and started catching them on almost every cast until I got bored. I put on a small popper and caught a couple. I finally thought I had caught a keeper but it ended up being a big bluegill. I picked up a couple LMB as well. There were acres of these little guys and they stayed there feeding from around 7 PM to 9 PM. No keepers, but I still had fun for a while.
