Tenkara Fishing Another Pond! #tenkara #fishing

Planned to go kayak fishing Saturday but sidetracked with weather and a little chill in the air. Quick change to pond fishing in short order… went Tenkara fishing a local pond. Caught a few Bluegill and Bass working a Foam Grasshopper.

Overall, this trip showed the convenience of Tenkara with a change in plans from kayak fishing to pond fishing easily accommodated.

More important, what could have been a missed day of fishing because yours truly may have been sidetracked by a potential “honey do” or two was avoided!

Past experience I have been diverted from fishing when asked, “Oh, I thought you were going to the lake today? No, then can you…?”

Ouch! Good thing I had a Tenkara Rod a the ready!

Tested out a new fly pattern – no name for it yet. Caught a Bass and lost a Bass, then switched to damsel flies and caught Bass, Bluegill, and Sunfish.  Will tweak the new fly pattern more, and “test” it out again. Was good to see lots of fish near shore in their beds. Looked like the bigger Bluegill were further out from shore this year. Regardless, makes for some good fly casting practice for distance… Fun stuff!

Rainy Day Then Cleared Up... #

Rainy day, so did not plan to go fishing. Ran some errands and ended up having drinks at Mash’d in Plano. Fun time…even got a quick trip in at Bethany Lakes. Struck out but did get some great practice fly casting. For now, going to relive past fishing trips… in this case, kayak fishing on Texoma!   rain is gone, still no #fishing …bummed, but getting #mashed at #mashd …hee, hee! Mckinneycrappiecatcher: Re: Lower Mt Fork River - Fishing Guide Report with Video and Pictures This weekend was absolutely epic in beavers bend. cody (txpacker4) and I could only manage one walleye Friday night, but Saturday all heck broke loose, we caught smallies, spotted bass, trout, sandies, bluegill, and to top it off, a two man limit of both walleye and crappie. Bent Back Clouser Variant Worked!

Tested out a new pattern… a Bent Back Clouser Variant. This one uses a weighted keel instead of dumbbell eyes or bead chain, and the hook shank is bent back slightly. Worked well today at Sonic Pond! Tried it at Bethany Lakes, yesterday with some success. Today was much better. Used a larger hook and flashy chenille instead of flashy tinsel. Stay tuned for the fly tying demo on how to tie one!

Bethany "Flats" for a Quick Trip

Decided to fish Bethany Lakes again today after work. Only had about an hour but it was enough to catch a few Bass and Bluegill from the flooded area of the Horseshoe Pond. Calling it the “flats” since the water is less than a foot deep and the Bass cruise the area in search of a bite like the Redfish do in the Laguna Madre! All went for a Pink Near Deere. Ran out of them yesterday but luckily the pattern is an easy one. Now have two – one on the fly rod and another in the fly box.
