Here is a video and infographic we created to detail our approach to fishing for trout using spinning gear. Normally, we use fly fishing gear but we do like to have spinning gear at the ready!

Mowed the lawn with lots of daylight to spare! So, went fishing on a quick trip to Celebration Park’s East Pond. Took the 2-Weight Fly Rod and was going to fish a Tenkara Fly. But, on the first cast, hooked my thumb… no worries, “just a flesh wound”. Caught several Sunfish and a Bluegill that went for a Foam Grasshopper! Then, head home to take care of the Tenkara Fly issue. In short order using an online tip on hook removal and with a little help, was able to remove the hook with minimal pain! Denison Dam Fishing for Gar... by Chance Anyone?

Fished Denison Dam Saturday morning. Initially, planned to bring a Switch Rod to fish Clousers in the runs, pockets, and pools before they started generating power. Quick check of the real-time hydroelectric data and the planned schedule showed two generators online for 24 hours Friday and into Saturday, and possibly Sunday. Here are a few things we like to have when fishing the tailrace at our local reservoir – Texoma lake and its tailrace referred to as Denison Dam. Here are some observations on where to find different species in the river. These are not hard and fast rules, but fairly general in nature, yet they hold true an awful lot of the time. Bluegills are typically close to the bank, within about 6' of the edge. Bluegills love cover, so a good place to hunt for them is where there are tree branches in the water, or tree roots. I've seen a lot of bass tearing up the water right at the edge, going for the Bluegills, they are under constant attack, probably why they like cover so much. The further you get away from the bank the larger the Bluegill is likely to be.
