Frisco Commons "Throwback Saturday" #troutfishing

Well, yours truly was not spared by whatever “bug” is going around. Not able to go fishing; hope to get well soon. Painful for this Fishing Addict to be indoors… even though there is a slight drizzle (“just a cloud”) this morning, would be headed to Frisco Commons for a go at the trout. Frisco’s Trick-A-Trout Derby will be happening and so will the fishing! For now, can relive past fishing trips through video… playlist shows trips in 2013, 2015, and 2017!

Had a little time today to break away from the “salt mines”. Had the Wine Cork Micro Fly Rod handy in the car and hit a nearby pond – been some time since we fished the pond by Cinemark in Allen. Last time we tried to fish it, it was dry from the drought. Before that, we fished it and caught little Sunfish. Pleasant surprise this time; caught two Bass – one went about 13″ in size and the other was a fingerling. Bass and Bluegill This Round

Tested out a new fly pattern – no name for it yet. Caught a Bass and lost a Bass, then switched to damsel flies and caught Bass, Bluegill, and Sunfish.  Will tweak the new fly pattern more, and “test” it out again. Was good to see lots of fish near shore in their beds. Looked like the bigger Bluegill were further out from shore this year. Regardless, makes for some good fly casting practice for distance… Fun stuff!

Liking this report! YakAnglerTTU: First Double Digit Bass! Joe Pool Lake Hey guys! I had one heck of a day on the water today. I went out to Joe Pool and was fishing a secondary point...I was deep cranking in about 15ft or so, catching some nice 17" bass. And then....BOOM. My drag started screaming, and honestly, i thought i hooked a huge catfish. At first, I couldn't budge the fish at all...but once i worked her to the top, and saw what i had i couldn't believe it. I don't consider myself a great bass fisherman, heck I'm average at best. But i watch a ton of kayaking videos like Chad Hoover, Robert Field, and others, and have learned a lot just listening to their tips. This is one of those times that practice pays off and I'm so excited to part of the DD club On a side note, i turtled my kayak for the first time today, lost some gear but i was prepared. Kroger Pond with the Two Weight!

Was able to get a round of fishing in yesterday morning at Kroger Pond. Went with the Two Weight Fly Rod again, and fished with an Orange/White Tenkara Fly and a Foam Grasshopper. Bite was steady with several nice Bruiser Bluegill in the mix. Did see several nice sized Bass chasing after little Bluegill but none went for out fishing fly. Overall, another fun time fishing…. Good thing we were able to fish yesterday, big storm is hitting our area currently. Stuck indoors today.

Near Deere Works for Bass!

Nice weather and more daylight to fish after work. So, best thing to do is go fishing. Headed to Bethany Lakes with the Four Weight Fly Rod and an Olive Near Deere. Fished for about an hour. Was able to catch 10 Bass or so. May have missed the count +/- 1 but did not miscount the lost fish. Had two throw the hook, and a nice one that broke off. Still a great time; even better knowing the Olive Near Deere – same one that we used in Prosper for Rainbow Trout, works for Bass too!

Kayaking Fishing Lavon Report

Good to hear kayak fishing is producing on Lavon! Fisherman13: Re: Community Lakes Went to prefish Ray Roberts last Thursday for a kayak bass tournament that is coming up on the 23rd only managed one bass that went 15". Hoping to have better luck on tournament day, but Inwas limited on time that day as well. Then Friday I took a quick trip to Lavon with the kayak as well. Was looking for bass but tried for other species as well. I caught a baby sand bass trolling a crank. Then caught a decent bass jigging for crappie that went 16" Later I paddled up a small creek and had a blue cat take my crappie jig catfish went about 25" Slow day but also limited to 2 hours to fish. Next in the Getting Started in Fly Fishing series is a video that shows yours truly catching fish using only 32 feet of line - 8 feet of line on the rod, 16 feet of line past th rod tip, and 8 feet of leader tippet. If you are first starting out and you get frustrated with your cast, try less line and focus on a stealth approach/presentation to fish lurking near the bank. And, gain a feel for setting the hook and playing a fish on a fly rod. Fun stuff!
