With the lake full and the flow good we caught almost trout till July this year up by the dam. Many had put on serious weight hope the lake stays full again this year. Tends to be best on the coldest days and a week or so after stocking. (Helps the crowd and let's new fish get acclimated)
Micro Fly Rod Fishing at Kroger Pond this evening. Bite was good on little Bass and Bluegill. Foam Grasshopper in Size 16 worked well, but ended up losing the fishing fly to a “Tree Fish”! Switched to a Tenkara Fly and was able to continue to hook up with the little Bass and Bluegill. Fun stuff! Bream Getter Cabela's Fiberglass CGR Fly Rod Rooster Tail Inline Spinners Mepps Trout Kit
Put in at Lake Lavon’s Lavonia South Ramp for some kayak fishing. Plan was to catch a few fish for a soup recipe – specifically, yellow bass as well as anything else that was legal size! Went with Nightcrawlers and caught a few, then caught a few more bottom bouncing slab and jig rigs! Do check back for the soup recipe and the next day’s trip kayak fishing Clear Lake Park on Lavon!
Short on time this morning. Got a round in though at Bethany Lakes. Saw a few folks hooking up with Trout; however, for this fisherman, it was three strikes of which two were missed, and one that did not… only one Rainbow Trout this time!
Here is simple, quick tie pattern that works well for trout…Simple Mop Fly! We have used the pattern in various combinations of dubbing – white, pearl, pink, and orange. For this demo, we opted for White UV Dubbing. However, it can be readily replaced with your favorite color as well as with Glo Bug yarn used in Egg patterns! Liked the Olive/White Tenkara Fly; decided to try Red for the body and White for the Wing… end result is another simple but effective fishing fly pattern. Tested the pattern at Bethany Lakes this evening. Really windy day but did get enough casts to catch 12 fish this round – two Bass and ten Bluegill! May need to tie more of these guys!
Latest issue of iFishNews is available. Do check it out – April 13, 2016 ! Current trends in our area, don’t forget about Crappie, do prepare for kayak fishing soon, and check out how we tied the Damsel Fly Variant we call the “Look Ma No Hands”! April 13, 2016
Fun times… looks like the Elk Hair Caddis that we tied the other day has resulted in controversy – specifically, should the wire rib used be tied over the hackle or should it be tied under it over the dubbed body and then follow with the hackle? Since its up to the fish… going to tie them both ways, and see what happens. Suspect the rib tied over the hackle will be more durable then tying it over the body, will see what happens. More a matter of preference; have had the last Ellk Hair Caddis last a season without an issue. Nevertheless, going to tie two Elk Hair Caddis using both patterns; let’s have some fun and use it as an excuse to go fishing! LOL!
This is promising… morning update on RC's Sandbass action! 9point: Re: Rowlett Creek 2016 Caught 13 this morning lost 7 on lucky stringer . If yall see stringer you could have fish. I just want my lucky Stringer back. Lol. Oh they were on the bottom this mornin and walk around Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums
Another YouTube Shorts video to add to the playlist; trip to the local pond fishing with a fly fishing gear. Several fish caught with this Bass being the largest. Went over 15″, caught and released to get bigger; maybe will catch him again when the weather warms up again. Not The Biggest, But Still Fun On the Fly!
