Been itching to kayak fish Texoma for some time but kept getting sidetracked with other things until this morning! Made the run up to Texoma and put in a Spillway Ramp.

Been awhile since we been up here… Dave’s Ski and Tackle is now a Lonestar Store and the Ramp fee at Spillway Ramp is $5.00 now. No worries though, Lonestar carries the Blue/White Bucktail Jigs we like to use when fishing Texoma. We would tie them ourselves but for some reason, these do better than ours… must be their mojo is on for Texoma!

Was hoping to be at the ramp at 7:00AM but was delayed an hour. Plus we stopped at Krispy Kreme for our breakfast of champions – coffee and donuts!

Lots of surface action until around 10AM, then it was sporadic.  Did not get any bites trolling but did have a Striped Bass break-off on a Tandem Rigged Bucktail Jig and Fluke Rig. And, while they were busting around the kayak, managed to catch one – went 20″ in length. Also, while working a surface popper had several missed strikes and one Largemouth Bass that took.

More fun catching Bass on the fly with the Mardis Gras Near Deere. Caught ten this time in just under an hour. But, had to call it quits early to go on a pizza run for dinner. No worries… still beats working! Playing the next few days by ear; will see what the change in weather brings. Pattern that worked for us yesterday and today was a fishing fly that simulated a small bait fish 1-1/2 to 2″ in length. If not fly fishing, would go with a small Road Runner of Crappie Jig on a steady retrieve using Ultralight Spinning Gear.

Bass and Bluegill This Round

Tested out a new fly pattern – no name for it yet. Caught a Bass and lost a Bass, then switched to damsel flies and caught Bass, Bluegill, and Sunfish.  Will tweak the new fly pattern more, and “test” it out again. Was good to see lots of fish near shore in their beds. Looked like the bigger Bluegill were further out from shore this year. Regardless, makes for some good fly casting practice for distance… Fun stuff!

Another Quick Trip... Trout Fishing Towne Lake in McKinney

Really nice day! Still have video to edit but did limit out at Towne Lake in McKinney; caught but released five Rainbow Trout that went for an Olive Near Deere using the same setup as we used yesterday at Murphy – Corqs Strike Indicator and a Near Deere set 3 feet below it. Dead drift worked as well as a few short pull retrieves. Short on time but still a fun time… plus Charlie the Maltese Puppy got to see his first… hopefully many more to come, Rainbow Trout! Video still in the works; will post on our YouTube Channel when done. But, for tonight, we are chillin and grillin steaks and winding down this weekend!

Good to know!     hurricanecraig: Texoma Fished Texoma this morning from 6:30 until about noon. Water was 61 degrees. We launched at Eisenhower state park. I was trying to catch black bass but caught crappie and striper before I caught my first ever smallmouth before leaving. It was tiny.
