Been itching to kayak fish Texoma for some time but kept getting sidetracked with other things until this morning! Made the run up to Texoma and put in a Spillway Ramp.

Been awhile since we been up here… Dave’s Ski and Tackle is now a Lonestar Store and the Ramp fee at Spillway Ramp is $5.00 now. No worries though, Lonestar carries the Blue/White Bucktail Jigs we like to use when fishing Texoma. We would tie them ourselves but for some reason, these do better than ours… must be their mojo is on for Texoma!

Was hoping to be at the ramp at 7:00AM but was delayed an hour. Plus we stopped at Krispy Kreme for our breakfast of champions – coffee and donuts!

Lots of surface action until around 10AM, then it was sporadic.  Did not get any bites trolling but did have a Striped Bass break-off on a Tandem Rigged Bucktail Jig and Fluke Rig. And, while they were busting around the kayak, managed to catch one – went 20″ in length. Also, while working a surface popper had several missed strikes and one Largemouth Bass that took.

More info on Possum Kingdom! With the lake full and the flow good we caught almost trout till July this year up by the dam. Many had put on serious weight hope the lake stays full again this year. Was out fishing a local creek earlier this week. Caught a few Bluegill with the 2wt flyrod but was wanting for the tenkara rod as the creek was lined with brush and offered minimal access as well as casting room. Lots of roll casting and switch casting was the key. Unfortunately, lost the video… deleted it by accident. No worries, trip triggered your’s truly to search online for tenkara sales… and with luck, found Tenkara USA was offering a 30% discount on their rods. Nice! Noted the Iwana Tenkara Rod that we have been eyeing for several years was at our price point… $119 plus $14 for shipping. Order is in… now waiting for delivery. While we wait, will take out the old Tenkara Rod and wet a line or two. Due check back on updates on our Tenkara adventures!

More on Squaw Creek…     Littlefeather: Re: Squaw Creek Tilapia I've not been to Squaw since Winter but caught a whole box of Tilapia and big channel cats. Squaw is the hottest water lake I've ever fished so Winter really pays off! Generally in the warmer months almost every fish in the lake goes as far up the river as they can go so they escape the hot power plant water circulating. Sometime you can just step from one boat to the next to the next up the river in the Summer. I wouldn't think the bank fishing areas would be very good right now but January and February should be non-stop action. We generally just use a slip float, small hook, and regular old worms. Cold Morning at Bethany... "Green Trout Anyone" #flyfishing

The “illusive Green Trout” Was going for Rainbow Trout at Bethany Lakes this morning but was not able to catch any. Did catch a Shellcracker and two Bass aka “Green Trout”! Caught the fish using an Olive Near Deere. Did get two Trout to strike a Griffith’s Gnat but was not able to set the hook fast enough. Trout were in the pond and were actively feeding on the surface after about 8AM. However, wind and cold as well as the well positioned trees to hinder a back cast made it hard to cast where the fish were lurking. Cold morning but still had fun!

Fly Tying This Evening... Near Deere and San Juan Worm Balls! #flytying

Rain in the forecast and tied up with work related things. No worries, got a round of fly tying in to start the weekend. Opted for more Olive Dear Deere and San Juan Worm Balls.
