Here is the follow-up video from yesterday’s trip to the Lower Illinois River. No action shots of the hook set as it was a tough go catching them on a fly rod. Fishing buddy did well with Ultralight Spinning Gear and Power Bait Trout Worms to get a limit! Did take the opportunity to talk briefly about the switch rod we used as a one-handed fly rod. Cold temps that day but did learn others were able to wet wade the day prior… even better, they were able to catch a number of them on the fly! Classic “they were biting yesterday” syndrome!

Had a little time today to break away from the “salt mines”. Had the Wine Cork Micro Fly Rod handy in the car and hit a nearby pond – been some time since we fished the pond by Cinemark in Allen. Last time we tried to fish it, it was dry from the drought. Liking this report! YakAnglerTTU: First Double Digit Bass! Joe Pool Lake Hey guys! I had one heck of a day on the water today. I went out to Joe Pool and was fishing a secondary point...I was deep cranking in about 15ft or so, catching some nice 17" bass. And then....BOOM. My drag started screaming, and honestly, i thought i hooked a huge catfish. At first, I couldn't budge the fish at all...but once i worked her to the top, and saw what i had i couldn't believe it. I don't consider myself a great bass fisherman, heck I'm average at best. But i watch a ton of kayaking videos like Chad Hoover, Robert Field, and others, and have learned a lot just listening to their tips. This is one of those times that practice pays off and I'm so excited to part of the DD club On a side note, i turtled my kayak for the first time today, lost some gear but i was prepared. Kayaking Fishing Lavon Report

Good to hear kayak fishing is producing on Lavon! Fisherman13: Re: Community Lakes Went to prefish Ray Roberts last Thursday for a kayak bass tournament that is coming up on the 23rd only managed one bass that went 15". Hoping to have better luck on tournament day, but Inwas limited on time that day as well. Then Friday I took a quick trip to Lavon with the kayak as well. Was looking for bass but tried for other species as well. I caught a baby sand bass trolling a crank. Then caught a decent bass jigging for crappie that went 16" Later I paddled up a small creek and had a blue cat take my crappie jig catfish went about 25" Slow day but also limited to 2 hours to fish. While surfing the net, checked out Texas Fishing Forum’s fly fishing thread. Noted a question that got our attention. “How do I know if a cut off to much of my fly line……..? I’m a newbie and I’m wondering if I cut off to much. I am also looking for some lessons. I want to fish for trout in the future so I want to be able to lay the line down on the water softly. Thanks in advance” This video provides our suggestions and fits our Team’s goal… “Learn to fish by our trials and errors” which we have made lots of errors over the years. Bass and Bluegill This Round

Tested out a new fly pattern – no name for it yet. Caught a Bass and lost a Bass, then switched to damsel flies and caught Bass, Bluegill, and Sunfish.  Will tweak the new fly pattern more, and “test” it out again. Was good to see lots of fish near shore in their beds. Looked like the bigger Bluegill were further out from shore this year. Regardless, makes for some good fly casting practice for distance… Fun stuff!

Foam Grasshopper Still Works! #flyfishing

Quick trip to Kroger Park this evening. Tied a Green Foam Grasshopper, grabbed the 5wt Fly Rod, and headed to the pond for a go at the fish. Number of hits from Bluegill, some Bass as well. Did lose a number to short strikes and thrown hooks. No worries… caught a number of them. Catfishing at Lake Lavon!

Liking this update! Last weekend had different results all 3 days,   Foggy day 1 and 2, temp was 48 to 52, wind was not consistent. Bait was shad Day 1, deep water, fish some humps but they were not there, started drifting and was able to pick off 15, Here is a pick of a triple 30,26,25. Day 2, mid depth, fished creek channels and timber, landed 7 biggest were 23, 33. Day 3, started deep on humps caught 20,18, move to mid depth and stopped catching.    We need a lot colder temps to get these cats to stack up.     Retrieved from http://forum.lakelavonfishing.com
