Fun Saturday... Looking Forward to Sunday!

Was not certain about the weather as rain and scattered thunderstorms were noted in the forecast. Decided to stay on shore instead of kayak fishing and continue fishing with the same setup used yesterday – 2-Weight Fly Rod and an Orange/White Tenkara Fly.

On a whim fished the pond by Davis Library in Plano Saturday morning. Was hoping to get some action shots fishing the clear water found in the feeder creek. Had to make adjustments and fish the main pond soon after arriving. Turned out the feeder creek was overgrown with brush.

After blind casting while walking the pond’s bank, found schools of bluegill and what looked like shellcracker (or a hybrid mix of bluegill and shellcracker). Fished the area for about an hour and caught and released a number of them.

After deciding on “one more cast” to call it a trip, caught some nice size bluegill by the bridge on the main pond side. Caught several more, then fished the other side of the bridge where the feeder creek enters the pond.

Saw a little open area and managed to cast a fly there. Caught ten in that little area before finally ending the trip! Did see lots of kids fishing from an event hosted by the Library. Looked like they were having fun!

Later in the evening, went back out for another round. Fished the pond by Sonic and caught several fish as well as lose a couple. No Bruisers but still lots of fun!

Liked the EmmRod Kayak King for fishing the local pond for Catfish. Very convenient to carry around or keep in the little pickup truck. Ordered the Fly Rod, arrived yesterday but was not able to fish it till today. Had to make a run to Fort Worth, so brought the EmmRod Fly Rod and several Near Deere fishing flies just in case we had a chance at fishing today. Was able to fish with it on the Trinity River in Fort Worth. Water was high with lots of flow from recent rains. Did manage to catch a few Longear Perch and Sunfish! Looks like the fly rod will be made readily available for more side trips while on the commute home from the day job!

Oops, I did it again… another Winter trout stocking season is soon to be here. Like in past seasons, yours truly modified the schedule posted by TPWD to sort by Stocking Date and the count of trout stockings planned for a location and its estimated trout to be stocked. Makes for ease of reference by allowing Readers to quickly see when the next trout stocking is planned. As changes are unexpected for various reasons like weather, do check for updates, changes, and corrections at TPWD’s website – 2021-2022 TPWD Trout Stocking Schedule . Note: Dates for trout stockings at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFCC) in Athens show 12/1/21, 1/1/22, and 2/2/22. Kayak Fishing | Lake Lavon | Lavonia South Boat Ramp

Put in at Lake Lavon’s Lavonia South Ramp for some kayak fishing. Plan was to catch a few fish for a soup recipe – specifically, yellow bass as well as anything else that was legal size! It has been some time since we posted the Bass Weight Estimator on our archived blog - CityOfAllenFishing.blogspot.com , but after a few tweaks, it is available once again on our current blog - Stocker Trout Fishing ! Check it out and keep it handy when out in the field fishing for bass. Information is derived from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (link to TWPD's site) .
