Another video snippet of the effectiveness of this combo. Popper catches fish'. Fly Rod casts well even over the shoulder, too! #flyfishing #fishing #pondfishing
Had a little time today to break away from the “salt mines”. Had the Wine Cork Micro Fly Rod handy in the car and hit a nearby pond – been some time since we fished the pond by Cinemark in Allen. Last time we tried to fish it, it was dry from the drought. Before that, we fished it and caught little Sunfish. Pleasant surprise this time; caught two Bass – one went about 13″ in size and the other was a fingerling. Fun stuff! https://www.instagram.com/p/BECKCanRCqy/
Keep this one handy. Stocking points posted on the Blue River Public Fishing and Hunting Area Facebook page! Here is a link if you have a Facebook account… Link. Else, here are pictures for reference from their site:
Video snippet showing how I switch the Martin Fly Reel from left to right hand retrieve. Works for similar click-pawl drag single action, fly reels. For more details, see the full video Try These Two Modifications for the Martin Fly Fishing Combo
Tested out a new fly pattern – no name for it yet. Caught a Bass and lost a Bass, then switched to damsel flies and caught Bass, Bluegill, and Sunfish. Will tweak the new fly pattern more, and “test” it out again. Was good to see lots of fish near shore in their beds. Looked like the bigger Bluegill were further out from shore this year. Regardless, makes for some good fly casting practice for distance… Fun stuff!
Hosted the fly tying demo at Bethany Lakes yesterday. Was concerned about the rain but luckily it stayed dry. Just in case, we setup at one of the covered picnic areas overlooking one of the ponds. Had two enthusiasts join the demo, and in short order, we had tied a size 10 and size 14 Foam Grasshopper. For good measure, “tested” the size 14 Foam Grasshopper and caught a Bluegill and a little fingerling bass fishing with the Micro Fly Rod! Fun stuff, will have to plan another event in the future… hopefully, at a location that can weather a rain shower!
Slow action this morning but did get a nice Catfish using the Micro Fly Rod! Started out fishing a Foam Grasshopper, then switched to a White Near Deere when we noticed the fish seemed to be lurking deeper. Fun stuff on ultralight fly fishing gear! PS: Posted picture on the Fishing Bulletin Board !
May need to revisit fishing Rowlett Creek. From the pictures below, it looks like it may be a tough go! Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums
Pink and White Near Deere Quick trip to Bethany for some Switch Rod casting practice this evening. Managed three Bass that went for a White Near Deere this round. Similar to the “swing the rod slowly retrieve” that worked on the trout at Waterloo in Denison and at Frisco Commons, it worked on the Bass at Bethany as well! Need to keep this in mind for the Saturday’s Trout Derbies. Although there are two scheduled, will likely give Murphy’s Trout Roundup a try! Fun stuff!
Liking the Bass action from a report on Saint Patrick's Day at Bethany Lakes in Allen! McKinneyLonghorn: Re: Community Lakes Had a great night fishing at Bethany on St. Patrick's Day. In fact, I accomplished what I have dubbed the Bethany Lakes Grand Slam - catching at least one bass from each of the four ponds in one day. Started off in the Horseshoe Pond with a bass off a bed using a Baby Brush Hog. Then caught four in the Main Pond using a wakebait, plus one off a bed using a Senko that actually jumped back out of the water and onto the bank once I released him (and luckily I caught that on video). Finished with two more fish on a wakebait, one from the Upper Pond and one from the Lower Pond 35-40 minutes after sunset. The last two fish I caught were the biggest of the night so I finished on a hot streak. Here is the video . Also, I noticed a lot of fish on beds and a lot of people having no luck catching them. The thing I noticed about all of the fishe...
