Lot's of Fun Fishing the Galveston This Past Weekend!

The Team had a great time in Galveston fishing the two piers – Galveston Fishing Pier and the 61st Street Fishing Pier, over the weekend. Had been to both piers in the past. Originally, planned to fish only one but then we learned the T-Head at the Galveston Fishing Pier opened earlier this year.

First night we fished the Galveston Fishing Pier Friday evening from 9PM to 5AM Saturday morning. Bite was mainly Gafftopsail, Hardheads, Croaker, and Whiting for us. Did learn that others were catching Black Drum, Speckle Trout, and small Sharks.

Then, we hopped up the road to the 61st Street Fishing Pier and fished from 8:30AM to 3PM Saturday. During that time, we caught more Gafftopsail, Hardheads, Croaker, and Whiting. Saw lots of Mullet schooling and saw the occasional Shark take a bite of one. Others hooked into a Bonnethead Shark and Blacktip Shark, and then we caught a Blacktip Shark, too!

Things slowed down afterwards, so we took a break, then headed back to the 61st Street Fishing Pier and fished from 9PM Saturday to 2AM Sunday. More Gafftopsail, Hardheads, and a Croaker or two. Did see a Bonnethead Shark caught and released, and one fisherman was doing well with Live Shrimp for Speckle Trout under the lights.

Overall, was a great time to get away and go Saltwater Fishing!

The Brazos and the Yegua water shed are both taking on water though. I noticed the water below the dam had risen about 6 inches to a foot so the Brazos is still taking on some water from the previous rains. Lake Somerville

I went out to the lakeside of the dam last week to see if there were any white bass surfacing. Just before dark there were a bunch surfacing but they were all small. I suspect they were the crop from the spawn earlier this year. Looks like we had another good spawn as there were lots of them surfacing. I sure hope we get some good rains before December as the lake is over a foot low and I suspect the COE will have to flow some more water this summer.     Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums

Another great report from Texoma!!     texoma1231: Fly fishing Lake Texoma July 5th Put in at Eisenhower State Part this morning at 6:00am. Just missed the rain. Actually it sprinkled some as we were putting the boat in the water. We were using 8wt fly rods today in hopes of some larger stripers. Our first fish came just at the west corner of the cove at Eisenhower and it was a nice 2 1/2 lb small mouth. Followed by the same size large mouth. It was not long until we spotted some fish on the surface just out from the marina. We could tell that the fish were not large but it was the first top water action since fishing in Little Mineral trip a few days ago. We never got out of sight on Eisenhower and caught stripers and sand bass on top water most of the morning. We did catch some on clousers also. We were off of the water by 10:45 and had boated at least 35 fish between the two of us. All fish were between 13-14 in...

Work schedule remains crazy right now but still making time to get the latest update from others in the field. One update in particular comes from Steve in Australia. Here is the latest update courtesy of Steve… Great report and pictures. Keep them coming! Last Friday, I waded up the Grace Burn, which runs through Healesville and caught/released a nice wild brown trout on a Berkley 1″ Nymph fished on an ultra light spin outfit. Never used the Nymphs before and was very impressed with their fish attracting qualities. On the retrieve before I hooked this trout I saw a boil near the lure and then hooked the trout on the next cast. I may even try these Nymphs on the fly rod. Later that morning I’d arranged with the local water watch group to collect bug samples in the Grace Burn. We spent a couple of hours collecting and counting bugs and I’m pleased to say that the Burn scored very well as a healthy creek, which didn’t really surprise me. There were plenty of ...

Out and About Sunday Morning Pond Fishing! #coaffieldteam

[UPDATE: Added the video of the evening round below and a link to google maps. Pond is in Fairview on Fairview Parkway.] Started Sunday morning with a swing and miss at the “Pond Behind In-N-Out Burger”. Tried the usual spots without a strike, but did see a nice Bass along the bank… that is, did spook a nice Bass! Windy and cold but not ready to call it a morning, decided to move to another spot just down the road… it’s the pond along Angel Parkway. Forgot its name; calling Angel Parkway Pond for ease of reference. Windy and cold still, did not plan to fish for long. But, then got a bite on the PMOT… turned out to be a nice Bluegill! Stuck it out for longer, even after losing the PMOT… snapped it off while casting. Switched to a Muddler Minnow, hoping for a repeat like yesterday where a Bass took it as it was “sputtering” just under the water’s surface. No luck! Weekend is Here... No Solid Plans

Sunset at Celebration Park The weekend is here and a quick glance at the current temperatures shows a chilly 45 degrees Fahrenheit. No solid plans for fishing yet as the Team has non-fishing things to take care of before wetting a line can happen. No worries though as we will have a fly rod ready to go if the chance to fish does come up! We do note the Trout Fishing Derby at Oklahoma’s Blue River starts today. Hope to see a few Bruisers show on the Leader Board. Each year the Trout Stocking gets a supplemental stocking of some nice size Rainbow Trout to make things interesting! Also, reports from the Texas Fishing Forum show the bite is on at Beaver Bend – see  TFF’s TarponFly Guide Report . Things may get crowded as there is a festival happening in the area this weekend, so plan accordingly. For the Team the Blue River and Beavers Bend will have to wait until another weekend. Good report on Lake Lavon! " I went out yesterday around 6:45. It was cloudy and looked like it could either storm or clear up. I started at the east side of the damn, and the wind laid down and it was nice weatrher. First cast, good little 14 inch bass. I kept working the damn and got a bite every other cast. 2 or 3 cranks from the rocks, it was a Largemouth bass. If I got 10 - 15 feet away from the rocks, it was usually a crappie (big crappie, 14-15"). I went to look for the Sandies to have a little fun, but couldn't find them biting. So, I went back to the west end of the damn by the water release. First cast, I thought I was hung up in the rocks. It was a very soft bite. then the line started slowly moving away from me. It was the biggest Largemouth I have ever caught. It was 22 1/2". I thought it might be 10 pounds, but from the conversion charts, it was probably 7-8 pounds.
