Fished a new pond that was recently stocked with rainbow trout. Located in Sherman, Tx is Pebblebrook Community Park Pond.

Last weekend a Trout Derby was held at Pebblebrook; we were not able to make it but we anticipated lots of trout would be on the prowl Saturday morning.

They were… water was murky but the Rubber Legged Near Deere had them striking. Add the Rio Trout Max One-Handed Spey line on an Orvis Hyrdos SL1 reel and 10′ MaxCatch Fly Rod in a 2wt – what we call the “Discount Switch Rod” made for easy casting and catching!

Setting the hook in the time was another story though! No worries… was able to limit out. The Rubber Legged Near Deere and the Discount Switch Rod are fast becoming the Team’s favorite combo for trout fishing ponds!

Why…?

  1. Ease of casting for distance with minimal false casting if any. Plus the 10′ Length provided added line control of the 200 grain shooting head
  2. Trout seem to strike the rubber legged variant more readily than ones without legs, and worked in clear and murky ponds with good results.
  3. Orvis fly reel has tighter tolerances that prevent the mono running line from slipping under the spool, and the reel is sealed so no worries when dunked in the water… which yours truly has done several times already be accident!

Liked the EmmRod Kayak King for fishing the local pond for Catfish. Very convenient to carry around or keep in the little pickup truck. Ordered the Fly Rod, arrived yesterday but was not able to fish it till today. Had to make a run to Fort Worth, so brought the EmmRod Fly Rod and several Near Deere fishing flies just in case we had a chance at fishing today. Was able to fish with it on the Trinity River in Fort Worth. Water was high with lots of flow from recent rains. Did manage to catch a few Longear Perch and Sunfish! Looks like the fly rod will be made readily available for more side trips while on the commute home from the day job!

Like in past seasons, yours truly modified the schedule posted by TPWD to sort by Stocking Date and the count of trout stockings planned for a location and its estimated trout to be stocked. Makes for ease of reference by allowing Readers to quickly see when the next trout stocking is planned. As changes are unexpected for various reasons like weather, do check for updates, changes, and corrections at TPWD’s website – 2021-2022 TPWD Trout Stocking Schedule . Lake Lavon Fishing | Slabs, Shad, and the Lazy Man Fishing Method!

Fished Lake Lavon this past weekend. Saturday at Brockdale; Sunday at Highland. This is the follow-up video showing the action Sunday. Windy and lots of waves to deal with, luckily the twelve foot jon boat and 2.5 Suzuki Outboard made for an easy run to the Water Treatment Plant for some fun with White Bass. Later, made it back to the Point, found some Shad in the brushy areas with the cast net, and then fished a modified Sabiki Rig… replace the Slab with a weight and the Crappie Jigs with hooks. Caught several keeper size Catfish – largest went 19 inches, and White Bass as well. Also, released several undersized Catfish and White Bass as well as Yellow Bass. Overall, it was a fun trip. Did see the drainage area is flooded by the Water Treatment Plant… but most important learned the Lazy Man Fishing Method! PS: The 2.5 Suzuki Outboard works well as a pillow! Slab and Jig Fishing
