Request from a Reader asking about bottom bouncing jigs when we go kayak fishing. Put a presentation together with video snippets included to detail this technique!
Early start this morning had us fishing Bethany Lakes with the Foam Grasshopper in size 14. Caught several fish – little Bass and Bluegill. Then, had brunch in Dallas at the Katy Trail Ice House, followed by a little hiking on the Katy Trail. While out and about checked out Turtle Creek and saw lots of Bass, Bluegill, and Sunfish. Good thing we like to keep the Kiyotaki 18 Tenkara Rod handy when hiking. In short order, caught several fish including a few Longear Perch using the Marilyn Monroe Tenkara Fly! Always good to wet a line when anywhere near fish holding waters! PS: For more info about the rod, check out TenkaraBum’s site – http://www.tenkarabum.com/shimotsuke-kiyotaki.html
Keep this one handy. Stocking points posted on the Blue River Public Fishing and Hunting Area Facebook page! Here is a link if you have a Facebook account… Link. Else, here are pictures for reference from their site:
Question came up about how I fish the Simpler Foam Fly. Made a video to demonstrate. That said, I think it applies to other fishing flies when fishing pond! Do check it out as we keep to our Channel’s intent, “Learn to fish by our trials and errors!” And in this case, fly fishing a pond for Bluegill and Bass! Fly Fishing Tying Suggestions
Action is still happening for White Bass on the RC… even Hybrids are getting in the mix! Nobita1234: Re: Rowlett Creek 2016 went RC this early morning, fish about 40 min before go to work. Keep one 22' hybrid and release 3 sand bass. Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums

I just want my lucky Stringer back. Lol. Oh they were on the bottom this mornin and walk around Retrieved from http://texasfishingforum.com/forums
More tinkering around with ice fishing rod components. For ease of reference, calling it the Do It Yourself (DIY) Tanago Rod. Going to use it for Micro Fishing; hopefully to catch one of those “guppy” looking fish! Easy to make… used a 20″ solid fiberglass ice fishing rod, a 12″ wooden handle, and a braided cord for the lillian. Add some 2 pound test mono – smallest line in the tackle box, ready to try it out! DIY Tanago Rod compared to Micro Fly Rods
Put in at Lake Lavon’s Lavonia South Ramp for some kayak fishing. Plan was to catch a few fish for a soup recipe – specifically, yellow bass as well as anything else that was legal size! Went with Nightcrawlers and caught a few, then caught a few more bottom bouncing slab and jig rigs! Do check back for the soup recipe and the next day’s trip kayak fishing Clear Lake Park on Lavon!
Another round at Bethany Lakes Sunday. Limited out using Gold Super Dupers and Gold Kastmasters. Then, did some catch and release fishing with the Switch Rod. Trout went for a Olive Near Deere, Guadalupana, and a Krystal Dub Minnow! Fish wanted a fast retrieve; did get a lot of missed strikes and trout nipping our lures/fishing flies! Gold Kastmaster used today!
Kayak fishing Lake Lavon Saturday morning. Slow bite but did catch four fish using the bottom bouncing technique. Did keep two fish for a catch and cook video!
