South Lakes Park Pond in Denton This Round

Been fighting a cold and have been indoors these past few days. However, just could not let the day pass without wetting a line. Decided to check out South Lakes Park Pond in Denton this afternoon in hopes of Rainbow Trout.

The pond was recently stocked on Wednesday. Not sure how the trip would go; been some time since we last fished the pond.

Brought a 5WT flyrod and fished a Near Deere as well as a Tandem Rigged Near Deere and GRHEN. Had one strike while walking the bank, so stayed there and ended up catching two little Crappie and a Bluegill.

Continued to work the pond and had several strikes fishing the Tandem Rig under a strike indicator but failed to set the hook in time. Kept at it for another hour and managed to catch one more undersized Crappie.

Overall, had a fun time getting out on a chilly but nice day.

Was out fishing a local creek earlier this week. Caught a few Bluegill with the 2wt flyrod but was wanting for the tenkara rod as the creek was lined with brush and offered minimal access as well as casting room. Noted the Iwana Tenkara Rod that we have been eyeing for several years was at our price point… $119 plus $14 for shipping. Order is in… now waiting for delivery. More on Squaw Creek…     Littlefeather: Re: Squaw Creek Tilapia I've not been to Squaw since Winter but caught a whole box of Tilapia and big channel cats. Squaw is the hottest water lake I've ever fished so Winter really pays off! Generally in the warmer months almost every fish in the lake goes as far up the river as they can go so they escape the hot power plant water circulating. Sometime you can just step from one boat to the next to the next up the river in the Summer. I wouldn't think the bank fishing areas would be very good right now but January and February should be non-stop action. We generally just use a slip float, small hook, and regular old worms. Cold Morning at Bethany... "Green Trout Anyone" #flyfishing

The “illusive Green Trout” Was going for Rainbow Trout at Bethany Lakes this morning but was not able to catch any. Did catch a Shellcracker and two Bass aka “Green Trout”! Caught the fish using an Olive Near Deere. Did get two Trout to strike a Griffith’s Gnat but was not able to set the hook fast enough. Trout were in the pond and were actively feeding on the surface after about 8AM. However, wind and cold as well as the well positioned trees to hinder a back cast made it hard to cast where the fish were lurking. Cold morning but still had fun!

Fly Tying This Evening... Near Deere and San Juan Worm Balls! #flytying

Rain in the forecast and tied up with work related things. No worries, got a round of fly tying in to start the weekend. Opted for more Olive Dear Deere and San Juan Worm Balls.
