There's still a few stocked trout below the PK dam but you have to work for them. I started out just below the dam this morning and managed a few small stripers/sunfish in the big pool. I moved down a ways and caught a nice sized trout on a BWO. I then moved a little further down and managed two more smaller trout both on BWOs but I had to work for them. I bet it took me 2 hours and changing flies 5 times to catch those last two trout. They were rising I just couldn't quite get them to bite. I moved back up stream and threw an olive wooly booger and managed a 14" striper. It didn't seem to fight very hard as it didn't break my 4lb test line. I threw that same fly right back in and a much bigger striper broke me off. I tied another fly directly to my 8lb leader and an even bigger striper immediately broke it off. I tied another fly directly to my leader and of course the striper had moved on. I saw a few more trout in the water as I went to retrieve a snagged fly but none of them were interested in anything else I threw. I moved back to the first pool and threw a few more times with no luck. This may have been due to the two guys bow fishing along the bank. The day started off a bit cool at 33 degrees but warmed up nicely. All in all it was a good day.

Tested out a new fly pattern – no name for it yet. Caught a Bass and lost a Bass, then switched to damsel flies and caught Bass, Bluegill, and Sunfish.  Will tweak the new fly pattern more, and “test” it out again. Was good to see lots of fish near shore in their beds. Looked like the bigger Bluegill were further out from shore this year. Regardless, makes for some good fly casting practice for distance… Fun stuff!

Another Quick Trip... Trout Fishing Towne Lake in McKinney

Really nice day! Still have video to edit but did limit out at Towne Lake in McKinney; caught but released five Rainbow Trout that went for an Olive Near Deere using the same setup as we used yesterday at Murphy – Corqs Strike Indicator and a Near Deere set 3 feet below it. Dead drift worked as well as a few short pull retrieves. Short on time but still a fun time… plus Charlie the Maltese Puppy got to see his first… hopefully many more to come, Rainbow Trout! Video still in the works; will post on our YouTube Channel when done. But, for tonight, we are chillin and grillin steaks and winding down this weekend!

Mardis Gras Near Deere Keeps Working

More fun catching Bass on the fly with the Mardis Gras Near Deere. Caught ten this time in just under an hour. But, had to call it quits early to go on a pizza run for dinner. No worries… still beats working! Playing the next few days by ear; will see what the change in weather brings. Pattern that worked for us yesterday and today was a fishing fly that simulated a small bait fish 1-1/2 to 2″ in length. If not fly fishing, would go with a small Road Runner of Crappie Jig on a steady retrieve using Ultralight Spinning Gear.

Bethany "Flats" for a Quick Trip

Decided to fish Bethany Lakes again today after work. Only had about an hour but it was enough to catch a few Bass and Bluegill from the flooded area of the Horseshoe Pond. Calling it the “flats” since the water is less than a foot deep and the Bass cruise the area in search of a bite like the Redfish do in the Laguna Madre! All went for a Pink Near Deere. Ran out of them yesterday but luckily the pattern is an easy one. Now have two – one on the fly rod and another in the fly box. Kayak Fishing : Texoma

Good to know!     hurricanecraig: Texoma Fished Texoma this morning from 6:30 until about noon. Water was 61 degrees. We launched at Eisenhower state park. I was trying to catch black bass but caught crappie and striper before I caught my first ever smallmouth before leaving. It was tiny.
