There's still a few stocked trout below the PK dam but you have to work for them. I started out just below the dam this morning and managed a few small stripers/sunfish in the big pool. I moved down a ways and caught a nice sized trout on a BWO. I then moved a little further down and managed two more smaller trout both on BWOs but I had to work for them. I bet it took me 2 hours and changing flies 5 times to catch those last two trout. They were rising I just couldn't quite get them to bite. I moved back up stream and threw an olive wooly booger and managed a 14" striper. It didn't seem to fight very hard as it didn't break my 4lb test line. I threw that same fly right back in and a much bigger striper broke me off. I tied another fly directly to my 8lb leader and an even bigger striper immediately broke it off. I tied another fly directly to my leader and of course the striper had moved on. I saw a few more trout in the water as I went to retrieve a snagged fly but none of them were interested in anything else I threw. I moved back to the first pool and threw a few more times with no luck. This may have been due to the two guys bow fishing along the bank. The day started off a bit cool at 33 degrees but warmed up nicely. All in all it was a good day.

Had a little time today to break away from the “salt mines”. Had the Wine Cork Micro Fly Rod handy in the car and hit a nearby pond – been some time since we fished the pond by Cinemark in Allen. Last time we tried to fish it, it was dry from the drought. Before that, we fished it and caught little Sunfish. Pleasant surprise this time; caught two Bass – one went about 13″ in size and the other was a fingerling. Kayaking Fishing Lavon Report

Good to hear kayak fishing is producing on Lavon! Fisherman13: Re: Community Lakes Went to prefish Ray Roberts last Thursday for a kayak bass tournament that is coming up on the 23rd only managed one bass that went 15". Hoping to have better luck on tournament day, but Inwas limited on time that day as well. Then Friday I took a quick trip to Lavon with the kayak as well. Was looking for bass but tried for other species as well. I caught a baby sand bass trolling a crank. Then caught a decent bass jigging for crappie that went 16" Later I paddled up a small creek and had a blue cat take my crappie jig catfish went about 25" Slow day but also limited to 2 hours to fish. Next in the Getting Started in Fly Fishing series is a video that shows yours truly catching fish using only 32 feet of line - 8 feet of line on the rod, 16 feet of line past th rod tip, and 8 feet of leader tippet. If you are first starting out and you get frustrated with your cast, try less line and focus on a stealth approach/presentation to fish lurking near the bank. Bass and Bluegill This Round

Tested out a new fly pattern – no name for it yet. Caught a Bass and lost a Bass, then switched to damsel flies and caught Bass, Bluegill, and Sunfish.  Will tweak the new fly pattern more, and “test” it out again. Was good to see lots of fish near shore in their beds. Looked like the bigger Bluegill were further out from shore this year. Regardless, makes for some good fly casting practice for distance… Fun stuff!

I went out to Joe Pool and was fishing a secondary point...I was deep cranking in about 15ft or so, catching some nice 17" bass. And then....BOOM. My drag started screaming, and honestly, i thought i hooked a huge catfish. At first, I couldn't budge the fish at all...but once i worked her to the top, and saw what i had i couldn't believe it. I don't consider myself a great bass fisherman, heck I'm average at best. But i watch a ton of kayaking videos like Chad Hoover, Robert Field, and others, and have learned a lot just listening to their tips. This is one of those times that practice pays off and I'm so excited to part of the DD club On a side note, i turtled my kayak for the first time today, lost some gear but i was prepared. Catfishing at Lake Lavon!

Liking this update! Last weekend had different results all 3 days,   Foggy day 1 and 2, temp was 48 to 52, wind was not consistent. Bait was shad Day 1, deep water, fish some humps but they were not there, started drifting and was able to pick off 15, Here is a pick of a triple 30,26,25. Day 2, mid depth, fished creek channels and timber, landed 7 biggest were 23, 33. Near Deere Works for Bass!

Nice weather and more daylight to fish after work. So, best thing to do is go fishing. Headed to Bethany Lakes with the Four Weight Fly Rod and an Olive Near Deere. Fished for about an hour. Was able to catch 10 Bass or so. May have missed the count +/- 1 but did not miscount the lost fish. Had two throw the hook, and a nice one that broke off. Still a great time; even better knowing the Olive Near Deere – same one that we used in Prosper for Rainbow Trout, works for Bass too!
