Penn Squall 15 Reel Arrived....

Been happy with the Penn Squall 15 Reel and the Daiwa Sealine Surf Casting Rod. So, ordered another reel to go with the other rod (ordered two rods earlier).

Now we have a matched pair of Daiwa Sealine Surf Casting Rods and Penn Squal 15 Reels. NucLaroche and Fshng84 should have a good old time casting for distance with this setup.

We still have our American Rodsmiths Triton and Abu Garcie 6500 C3s, so we have tried and true back up rods to go with the new ones!

More reason now to go fishing!

Liking this setup… now we have two!

Been missing the kayaking sandals but finally found the replacement pair – Columbia’s Ridgeway! Water shoes were not cutting it; this will be our fourth pair of Columbia Sandals – First two were Santiams (I think), third one was the Riptide, and this one is a Ridgeway. Columbia is our favorite for fishing shirts and kayaking sandals…. will see how the Ridgeway works out this season and on! DIY Tanago Rod

More tinkering around with ice fishing rod components. For ease of reference, calling it the Do It Yourself (DIY) Tanago Rod. Going to use it for Micro Fishing; hopefully to catch one of those “guppy” looking fish! Easy to make… used a 20″ solid fiberglass ice fishing rod, a 12″ wooden handle, and a braided cord for the lillian. Add some 2 pound test mono – smallest line in the tackle box, ready to try it out! Yesterday, was able to get a cast or two with the TFO Fly Rod. Casting the OPST Commando Head with the coated running line made for much easier line management. So far so good… will likely use this rod in place of the 5wt that has been “retired” to the closet. Have a video of the fishing yesterday; still editing it… only caught one Bass and fouled hook at that. Temps were chilly, Bass were not biting… even picked up one by hand and moved it to a more aerated area. For now, Charlie and I have been preparing for warmer weather; plan to take him kayak fishing later in the year. That said, how about a skit to provide a little humor to our viewers!

Switch Rod Casting Practice at the High School... #flyfishing

Cold and windy but did have fun practicing casting the switch rod. Even had a few little Bass and Bluegill jump on the line! Made a run over the Plano East Senior High School and fished their catch and release ponds. Had a number of light strikes using a Near Deere under a strike indicator. But, it was the short, quick pulls or the steady retrieve that had the fish striking… at lease the little Bluegill and Bass! Fun time getting out and bending a rod; great way to close out the long holiday weekend!

Having fun pond hopping local ponds and getting lots of practice casting the OPST Commando Head that we like using on our 5wt Fly Rod. Able to demo different casts that we use while in the Field. Not sure if they are the traditional fly casts techniques… mainly go with variations of casts until we find one that works for us. How We Load Our Kayak... #kayakfishing

Struck out today but did get a good workout in kayak fishing. Tried Brockdale Park on Lake Lavon without a strike. Should have taken the hint when we did not see any Shad moving about. Used the fish finder to locate submerged structure but did not see any fish hanging out in the spots we found. No worries though, did take the opportunity to answer a Reader’s question on how we load our kayak. Since we have a little pickup truck, loading and unloading the 38lbs kayak can be done one handed by one person! Can’t catch them all, till next round… Good luck and good fishing!
